I'm rebuilding my CMX250 rebel. Any stories on performance upgrades for a 250Rebel.

Please do! There are lots of folks who will be interested in your findings!

I believe Duke once said something along the lines of, "The Rebel puts out 17 hp at the rear wheel. You could spend thousands on a 25% increase in hp and that would put you at a whole... 20hp." :)

As long as your expectations are reasonable, should be fun!

Well, if you put it in the back of a pickup you can get a big performance boost. ;-)

tbolt's Duke quote is pretty much on target.

If you want performance, it would be cheaper to go buy a different bike. The Rebel is a good bike, just enjoy it for what it is.

I still think the best performance mod is weight reduction ... of the rider.

A few years ago, someone came on the board wanting all kinds of 'upgrades' for the Rebel.

Sure--

many people want certain things-- heated grips, better headlights, bags-- whatever.

But now and again, we used to get folks looking for some kind of magic 'turn it into a Beemer' bolt-on kit...

MR had the perfect solution for that:

Genuine Hondaline accessory.

Go to Honda. Ask for part # GL1800.

This is a very special bike. A friend and I have already redone the fork seals, brakes and replaced the reflectors which have a special design within the reflectors. We used the machine at work in cutting them so they would fit properly. They came out really cool.

This bike is a keeper even after I out grown it.

I'll keep you posted.

The Rebel is over a friends house while we're restoring it.
When I go over again to work on it I'll take a close up
picture of the reflectors and send it over.

Duke, my Rebel already thinks it's a Beemer/Goldwing as it cruises at 75+mph throughout California, Nevada and Arizona completely stock 8) I plan to take more interstate trips as soon as the weather warms up.

I've thought about it, yes.

But I figured I'd reserve final judgement for when I actually got it.
