Howdy, new to this forum and looking for a bit of help. I've got an 86 Rebel 450 that I bought off a friend. The tank rotted out and I decided to take a gamble on a tank off ebay, which with a little modification, worked out ok. Problem is when I re-installed the petcock on the new tank. It fit, everything was good but when I started the bike, gas started ticking out the bottom of the petcock. It seems that when I had it on the old tank, it may have been dropped, pushing that bottom 'screw' on the petcock because it's now at a bit of an angle. It wont turn. Need help to find a replacement. I've looked online in a lot of places so far with no luck.

Thanks for any assistance.

I understand folks often just swap in a petcock from a 250 reb, and bypass the vacuum line.

Ok, any suggestions on where to buy one? I see one on ebay now but it appears to only have one connection on it, aside from where it screws onto the gas tank and I've got 3 connections on the current petcock. I understand that one is a vacuum line, so I dont need to connect anything to that but that leaves me with two and that petcock on ebay only has one. Suggestions??? Thank you!

Install a short piece of fuel hose to the petcock. On the remaning end, install a "y" ot "tee" internal fuel hose fitting. Now you have a fuel hose connection for each carb.

The T fitting method will work fine for the carbs, the vacuum part of the petcock can be disabled, and the petcock can be taken apart, the guts removed, and the cover put back on with a piece of thin metal plate and some gasket material. I don't know the exact procedure for a Rebel 450, but I have done this on a couple of other bikes. It of course disables the petcock, but if you need to shut off gas to the carbs, just disconnect the line at the T and stick a screw in it. Meanwhile you can search fro a 450 petcock, but don't get your hopes up. Who knows though, you might just get lucky.
