I had no idea horses were so sensitive to sound. Thanks for the info! From now on I will wave and just hope they wave back.

Now I need to know how you know that ;0)

And don't honk at them to signal you see them, haha. That'd stink.

I said dont ask, but since you did;
Almost 4 years ago I was training a 1100 pd horse in the round pen. A nice warm (70'f) day in March. What I didnt know, yellow jackets had made a nest in the round pen during the winter. While I was working the horse from the ground, the yellow jackets swarmed him, he spun and double kicked. I was able to get out of the way from one hoof, but not the other; caught me just below my right clavicle (collar bone), which spun me, knocked me down under him. He stepped on my back twice while trying to get away from me.

I ended up with a collar bone broken in more than 3 places, 2 ribs broke at the point where they connect to the spine, bruised lungs and bruised heart.

I still rode my little gz250 on a 1100 mile bike trip, 6 weeks later, to the HelenBack meet; my first bike meet, where I met a few folks on this forum.
By the way, refused surgery on the collarbone (hate doctors) and convinced the doctors to let me recuperate from home after 3 days in the hospital. All they were doing was monitoring me anyways.
PS. I always were a horse riding helmet when training the horses, either from ground or riding. Checked the helmet when I got home: helmet cracked in 3 places, didnt realized he even stepped on my head.

Moral of story: check for yellow jackets during those warm winter days. :-0

Too bad there wasn't a photographer around for that! I'm a horse lover too. I guess hogs and horses go hand in hand.

Wow David, quite the story! :0o

I can't imagine what would've happened if you hadn't had that helmet on :0S

(My apologies for taking this thread so far off topic, btw)
