If I'm not mistaken, there should be a tag on the inside of the airbox cover that has a paint code on it - at least for the classics there should be.

Yes - On the classic, if you remove the chrome metal outer airbox cover the color code sticker will be on the surface that the chrome cover snaps on to.

Thanks. I will try to avoid the 04 if possible, or at least try to find out if the clutch has been fixed.

I know this has been up a while, but do you still want to add some of the ones you're missing??...I have pictures of the '86 classic in the garage..and if you can't use them, I can e-mail you copies...give me a yell and let me know...

Yes; the ultimate goal here is to have a picture of each year, in each color option, from each market.

Obviously, most of the ones we have are from the US /North American market. They're easier for me to get. But anything that anyone has that is not yet posted-- or even a better version of something that is posted-- by all means, e-mail it on! The more info you can send with it, the better: Honda's official color name, etc.

Does anyone know if there is a list or chart showing each year, paint code and specific honda paint name for the rebel?

Only thing I've ever found is the listings in the Dealer's Guide excerpted in this thread.

OK, not having much success with internet searching for OEM paint codes for the rebel 250 or 450. Having a chart in the "library" would be valuable for anyone who didn't know their paint code, didn't have the right side cover, so they could just read it. So...

Need to ask everyone who reads this, if they remember... next time you go out to the garage to get something, check on your bike, etc. would you kindly take off the side cover (air filter side) and look on the inside for the paint code #? Jot it on a piece of paper (double check to make 110% sure that it is the correct code)

Then post it here, with your Model Year, 250 or 450 and Paint Color Name

That way, we can start to build a database of all the OEM Paint Codes or Pantone#'s. They are the alpha-numerical description of the paint color/qualities.

I want to thank everyone in advance for your help!!!

:notworthy:

Just out of curiosity, would a paint shop be able to mix the original color based on the paint codes?

That's going to depend more on the paint shop than anything else. Generally, few shops keep their paint codes for more than a few years-- ten years is generally considered to be the "lifespan" of a car or truck, so most shops toss their paint codes about ten or so years after a manufacturer discontinues a particular color.

Add to this that very few shops actually have manufacturer paint specs to begin with (they all have a favored brand or two of paint, and their codes are intended to produce colors that _look_ the same, but most generally aren't. Granted, it's a tough call to tell the difference, but there usually is one.

Another problem is that the older bikes, like the cars, were painted with the old single-stage paint, and I think _everyone_ went to basecoat/clearcoat some years ago.

And of course, some of the elements just can't be had anymore. The original classic Rebels-- the black ones--

if you looked really really closely, you'd see that the "metalic" in the paint was a fine red metal 'dust.' You're not going to walk in just anywhere and get that stuff anymore. As far as I know, the only way to obtain that sort of thing today is to find a way to reliquify the original paint and harvest it that way. :(

colorrite.com has quite a few paint codes for top and base coat (if required). Not sure when the clear coats took over (what year). Any way to tell.

Info on a 1986 250 in Candy Eiger Blue exactly as follows but in a different font:

COLOR LABEL
Model CMX250C G (with a circle around the "G")
Color PB-154C-U
Code PB154
HONDA

As for clear coats, I know Honda used clear coats back as far back as 1970, my sons CT70 has clear coat. Actually their paint system was pretty involved, primer, metallic base coat, candy coat then clear was typical for the CT70's. As a test, you can always use some polishing compound on a clean rag, if the rag gets paint color there is no clear.

Right, but that was still single-stage paint. The earliest clear coats were for use over single-stage paints to add a depth to the gloss.

Basecoat/clearcoat paints are somewhat different: the base is almost a primer-- it's not a primer, but that's about all the body that it has on its own. It's only purpose is, ultimately, to tint the clearcoat.

Basecoat without clearcoat won't survive. It'll fade away in a matter of weeks.

Well, here is what I was able to put together from colorrite.com and the rest is from here. There are a few unknowns  , that is, unless some of you can help by sending in your paint code (???), possibly found inside the right side cover.

Some of the color rite names are different from the honda paint names. On the right side, some of the color rite top coat and base coats are unknown.

Feel free to update this as you find it.

I'd suggest double-checking those against another paint house's listings.

The odds are good that what you've got there is _colorrite's_ paint codes, and not Honda's. :(

mine was originally black. it is an 85. when i got it it had been painted blue. now it is a metallic dark blue that looks alot like the first pic. of course their is the superman symbol painted on the tank. also pirate skulls wearing bandanas on the side of the tank. hey it is custom after all. that is the way i like it. one of a kind.lol

The Candy Eiger Blue in the mid 80's is honestly a nice color to me.

IDK but my question to you is How the heck would your DMV flunkie know if Candy Eiger Blue is an original color or not? As long as its a legit Honda paint code wouldn't that satisfy them?
