Kendas are fine. Dennis Kirk currently has an online sale on Kenda Challengers. Not sure about your sizes, but I just picked up a set of front and rear tires for a CX500 for $97 US.

Brent, are those tube type tyres or tubeless type being used with innertubes? I had very bad luck with a tubeless Kenda Challenger on the old NX250. Lots of tiny holes in the innertube on my run up the freeway to a training class.

Pirelli MT 66 tires come in tube type and tubeless. The tube type worked well for me on the Rebel 250. I got about 8K miles on a rear and 12-14K miles on the front.

Oh, they're tubeless, John. My limited rebel experience is 450, which are tubeless. Might not have been a very useful suggestion for buddy's 250
(We've had pretty good luck with tubeless Kendas on tubeless rims; they still stock tires for older 'classic' bikes, so we tend to check them first.)
