Took my first ride of the new year this morning. A bit brisk but very enjoyable and the only way to start the year off. Here is a short video I put together of the ride, I was using my Roam camera.

I'm hoping to get out for my first ride on Tuesday if the streets are clean enough by then. I got my last ride of '11 in on Friday. I did about 100 km in temperatures of -7 or -8 C. The Beemer is as comfortable to ride in the cold as any bike could be, with a fairing and heated grips and seat. The balaclava under the helmet and insulated MITS on the hands are essential for riding any distance in seriously below freezing weather. My hands actually stayed comfortably warm, and the balaclava kept the cold air off my neck and face. a FF helmet is pretty much mandatory as well to protect the face and head against serious cold.

We have been fortunate so far this winter with very little snow coming down and usually followed by warm rain which washes it all away.
Maybe this will be one of those years when we can ride in every month. I can only recall doing this once before in this part of the world, but I won't go out unless the roads are clean and dry. Salt is too hard on the bike, and ice is too hard on both bike and rider.

Miss Dottie and I just returned from a short ride to the store. 25 or so miles, she's not very cool tolerant so we kept it short.

Becca and I just got back home from our chapter's annual "Polar Bear" ride. Seems almost unfair to call it that when the temps were up to the 60's by the time we got home. But it was 39 when we left the house this morning, and we ran into some drizzle in the mountains, so I guess it qualifies. :D

18 bikes, about 25 members. We met at the north end of GA 400, and took the Richard Russell Scenic Highway over Blood Mountain to get to Hiawassie for lunch. Then, we cut over to US 129 to go back over Blood Mountain on the other side.

215 Miles total by the time Becca and I got home. I just passed 2,000 miles on the Voyager.

Haven't seen you guys since Cave City 1. I guess that group just sort of went its separate ways.

Becca and I were at the "unsanctioned" Rebel rally in Helen last June, and we were at the Lake Hope rally in Ohio in September. We were also at Cave City 2 in in Sept. 2010, and Andrews in August of '10.

IIRC, you had an accident not too long after Cave City 1. Glad to see you are still with us, and we hope to see you soon at the next rally.

There's a sanctioning board for Rebel rallies?
