I know that I type too fast for good accuracy, and the notebook keyboard doesn't help, but the loss of editing capability will surely lead to some significant goofs in the future.

Or, did I do something wrong to make the "edit" tab disappear?

Someone may have already replied after your post. I added the space for you.
The following is from the Help Tab. I knew I had read something about it before, but it took a few minutes to find it.
Caper

How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are the board admin or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (sometimes for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

John:

The edit tab remains (should remain) available in any post you make right up until someone replies / posts after you in that same thread or you end your session on the forum.

But it's been that way for years now. Did it just catch up to you?

There was no additional post shown.

If the browser didn't refresh the screen, shouldn't the edit tab have stayed and just "not worked"? Of course, I'm running alphas of the OS and browser; maybe something isn't enabled yet on my machine.

Anyway, I'll try to start proofing before submitting.

Edit: And yes, I could edit this right after posting it... :P

Yes; that's exactly what should have happened.

I don't know what to tell you, except to chalk it up to some weird glitch of some sort. :?

What's the time stamp of your post and the post right after? Might they have gone in more or less simultaneously?

Odd...

I'd have to just call it a glitch, John. :?

OK, what did you do? The edit tab is now there (and of course won't work because of your response).

:(

<edit> But it is now appearing on this new one, too.

Sheese!

All I can figure is that in the moment you posted, your computer and the server had something of a misunderstanding. :(

Evidently, they're getting it worked out. ;)

Duke, I just post a welcome message in the "Introductions", and there is no "edit" tab showing on the message.

The "edit" option should not be available in all sections of the board; introductions doesn't get the option (for those who joined after the policy went into effect) because it is auto-deleted after a period of time. There's no reason to edit "Hello; I just joined" and "Welcome aboard" for the simple reason that there's really no technical data there to slip up with ;)
