Jim:

the very things that are most complained about on our site:

the 'probation period' before posting links, pictures, the safeguards against machine-gun posting and multi-posting, the language rules, and the word censors themselves (amongst many more unseen things, of course) are the biggest reason you don't have those issues with us.

We work hard to keep the place clean, and while probably 90 percent of the people that visit here will never notice that it actually has paid off for them, too-- it does.

And-- for me, at least: knowing my friends and guests have a place that they can use and stay pretty much free from the garbage-- that's totally worth the work.

Boy way to resurrect an old thread.

Personally I like the measures in place. Keep up the great work Duke and Co.

I do appreciate the clean forum! However, I've been trying to post a response and I keep getting Invalid Session... any hints? Tips? Words of wisdom?

New one on me...

Try logging out and back in; it may be an Ip address issue or something.

when you are posting, are you previewing it first?

i ask because i've seen that "invalid session" response on quite a few occasions when i've previewed my post and then tried to post it . .

the fix, or rather workaround, that i've found is first to select and copy what you've typed before you preview (just in case). when you do a preview, instead of posting from there, hit the back button instead, and submit your post from there. (if you hit the back button and lose all your text, you can just 'paste' what you 'copied' ;) )

Hey Deanna! That's exactly what I do! I've gotten burned too many times! Now, before I preview I just copy everything. It's habbit for me now! :D

Thanks, Deanna... come to think of it, I do usually preview before I post (I find it easier to spot typos for some reason). Funny thing is, it took two tries before I got that post in last night. I'll give the copy a try, but I'm going to post this response without even previewing...

Thank you!

About your rules, Duke: I'm mostly a lurker, because I have a lot more to learn than to teach. But your rules are clearly the foundation of a great board. You set the tone for a venue where people treat each other respectfully and where few are made uncomfortable for the usual political/religious/lifestyle/lechery reasons. Keep up the great work.

There's nothing wrong with lurking. It's just more fun to pop in, add some cheerful words of encouragement and participate. You'll get a lot more out of this site if you ask silly questions. Don't forget that most people on this site will never meet face to face so you don't have to feel embarrassed if you ask what you think is a silly question. There's probably several people here who also have the same question and were too embarrassed to ask it or never thought to ask it.

It's just so much fun to ask questions, like Where do you live? Why not update your profile to include your location? Be sure to put your state first. How about adding a photo of your bike, or a bike that you'd like to the garage section? How long have you been riding? Have you taken the MSF Course? What's your favorite color? Do you wear gloves? What kind of helmet do you have? Do you wear leather chaps? Do your chaps have the butt cut out?

See! It's lots of fun asking questions! And often it's even more fun to read the replies! If you want to get started why not add a caption to the Picture This contest: http://rebel250.com/rebelforum/viewtopic.php?t=17015 LOL I just checked and saw you did add a post! And I got a chuckle out of it!

In a matter of a couple of days you could easily not be a lurker and become a supporting member! Have Fun!

The garage is availible from day one and with a little creativity or just asking for help a url can be shown. I have posted both pictures and urls for new members as have many others.

Rules are rules.

We are more than willing to help folks get their pictures posted. If you spent some time here, you'd probably notice the lengths fellow members go to help:

- accepting pics via email and posting them FOR the newbie
- moderators fixing obfuscated (example: "something dot com slash this slash that dot html") links so they can be clicked

What irritates me -- and this is NOT directed at you, Johnnyiroc -- is people who join this forum just because they have a problem. They ask their question, get a bunch of helpful answers, then disappear without a "thank you" or "goodbye."

Thanks for letting us give you the free help, buddy.

I have discovered two other things that will get an Invalid Session response, at least for me. One is three periods in a row. The other is some of the smileys or emoticons. For instance, the smiley giving a thumbs up riding the chopper was the cause the other day. Nothing that I can't work around, I assume that as I post enough and earn my wings (since its a motorcycle forum, do you earn your saddlebags instead?) that I'll have more leeway in the future. Just some things for the new users to avoid if their posts are getting rejected. Keep Trying!
