Open to all motorcycles .. and past riders who no longer own a motorcycle but can still talk motorcycle, food, Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala, and other fish stories. If you've got a Rebel, bring it. If you have an HD, bring it, we need something to tear apart. (The last comment was donated by RW, the HD rider, who thinks he just might take one of our Rebel 450s this time. Note he's not offering up his HD for teardown.)

Andrews NC .. Fri 5/30 and Sat 5/31, as well as Thu 5/29 for those who choose early arrival.

RW & I have reservations for a ground floor room beginning Thu w/ checkout Sun, 6/1.
(hmmm, I should have specified a room near the rocking chairs. Yep, they're still there despite having a new owner. The cookies too!)

Quality Inn
138 Country Hearth Inn Drive
Andrews, NC 28901
828-321-2176

.. ask for Beth when making reservations. (she works daytime)
.. mention Rebel Motorcyle Group for discounted rate.

$65 .. or roundabout, a nite. The same rate we were given in 2012.

This posting gives the Date, Location and Hotel information. More details will follow from me and other posters.

We already have a positive from 8 people (7 bikes) before this posting

Greg, it'll be good to see you & hear Becca's laugh again!

The positive response to this rally has increased to .. 12 people (10 bikes)

Looks like the right weekend was picked when most were free from obligations.

Just don't invite Mike Lyon.....he can't ride ....
He even fell off his bicycle...the neighbors say it was like watching Laugh In...

On the other hand, I am a much better rider, as I've learned not to try to push F-150s off the Highway.

What's this??? Andy awaking from a long winters nap? Just be nice.

The bike incident is only partially true, it was my 1947 Whizzer vs. a 40 lb. mutt. At least I wasn't pushing trucks. I just might ride the Whizzer to Andrews its 235 miles from here but probably 300 via the back roads, at 25 mph that's gonna take two days. Its just the ride.

OK, everyone bring all your tools, spare parts, and first aid bandages....We'll spend the whole weekend working on Wimp and his Whizzer....

Spare parts??? who has any for a '47 Road Master Whizzer? I think what Andy means is spare parts for him.

I'm planning on buying/ordering a CB500X with ABS and a center stand next week. I've already received the magnetic drain plug for it, and the shop manual has been ordered from Helm. I managed to get chewed out today for planning a trip to Montana on that bike for this summer. Something about "the kids knew I was going to do this before I had discussed it with her" seemed to be the biggest point. I'm not sure that's true, but they are more interested in talking bikes than she is, so it isn't that unlikely.

The upshot is that I'm probably not going to be able to string a trip to NC into this as I've promised not to leave for more than two weeks (Brenda stuck with my mother-related things while I am gone; mom will be 103 next August).

However, I do wish y'all well with the endeavor.

(John, the following sentence is for Brenda. Please pass it on)

"Actually, John .. what I had in mind was Brenda coming and you remaining behind to monitor the home front while she rocks along with the rest of us eating cookies, goes shopping, checks out Indian artifacts and lore, stops at the casino, and more"

It would have been so good to see the both of you and I'm more than pleased you even hinted at the possibility should there have been more "free time". RW just said, "you know the real reason he would want to come would be for Real Southern Grits".

Hey Steve,
Just a warning........if you elect to inherit Andy as a roomie be cautious as depending on the type and quantity of his evening refreshments he'll cut down the forest for miles around.

Mike

The Hoosier gang is coming :-)
There will be at least 2 Honda NC700x bikes (more Hondas at the Rebel meet).
Cant wait to see everyone who I haven't seen in over a year or years.
After the meet, I will be heading south to Florida for a few days, might as well, since Andrews is about half way there from my Indiana home.

It's 55F outside right now, and I'm about to ride over to my mother's to see her.

Retiring to the right climate isn't horribly tricky.

We're hunkering down for snow, maybe ice, here in the South.

Three mornings ago, I woke to 16 degrees with a feel of minus 11. From the back porch, I caught an unusual sight for this neighborhood .. smoke drifting lazily from the chimneys of 4 houses.

Yesterday, our emergency weather radio, always on, signalled an incoming warning. Again, unusual. Instead of warning of tornado, heavy thunderstorms, strong winds, or flooding .. it warned of a snow/ice mix.

It is common practice in this area to stock-up with bread, milk & eggs at the mere mention of the arrival of a flake or two of snow. Problem here, we already had bread, milk & eggs. So we picked up a large pizza and 12 Krystal burgers to satisfy the obligatory "stock up with food before the snow hits" trip.

Got home after our obligatory trip and noticed an email from Grin Rebel, titled "nice ride today". Enclosed was a picture, with lead-in words "70 and sunny"

I immediately decided .. since I've had nearly a week of unusuals already, I was going to do the unexpected. Instead of emailing Andy and telling him what a good picture it is .. that it's the best pix of him I've seen .. and the blues of the sky & water are beautiful .. and everything about the picture screams "It's warm here. Too bad it's not where you are. Hah!" ..

I will tell him in Andrews .. AFTER I beat him for being such a show-off. I'll bet I could get Madeline to help me.
