Hello Rebel People! Anybody besides me thinking Helen yet? Maybe it's a little early, but I've been thinking Helen 2012 ever since I started heading home from Helen 2011.

Will

The only rally we know of is Phil's annual campground gathering in Daytona during Bike Week.

I haven't heard anything. I'll give Mike Lyon a call and see if we get get some thought going on a springtime meet. Does everybody want to stick with Helen, or try something different? I sure enjoyed the rides at our Andrews meet, if we would like to go back there again.

Given a choice between Helen or Andrews .. I'd go with Andrews.

They have great, free cookies! And a better setup for getherings in the evenings and mornings.

Oh, yeah, the proximity of the Dragon and Cherohalla too.

Mike may not have the time to organize a spring rally. The last we heard, he had plans for a couple of trips of his own. Don't remember exactly when.

Mike sounds pretty busy. He said to keep him informed, but he does not want to organize anything.

The Country Hearth Inn with the free cookies has changed hands, and is now a Quality Inn. The person on duty at the desk could not quote a rate lower than $89/night, $84 if we could promise 15 rooms. I thought that was a little pricey. I left the manager a message to call me back if they could give us a better group rate.

I preferred the rides available around Andrews, but maybe because I'm around Helen about every other weekend.

My preference would be for the weekend after Memorial Day, May 31-June 2. I have a Vulcan Bagger Rally planned in Townsend, TN June 14-17. I also understand that Steve is planning a long trip west in June.

If anybody wants to try to find us a hotel in the Southeast for that weekend, preferably around Andrews, I would appreciate any help.

That's a bummer about the hotel no longer being Country Hearth Inn. We were afraid of that. At the last rally, the manager was telling us they were afraid they wouldn't make it through the financial crisis.

We will be hitting Tunica, MS that weekend .. on our 1st leg towards the Sidewinder rally. You guys have a great time.

We'd also told Phil that we cancelled on the Vegas trip for April. Can't do 2 long-distance trips like those back-to-back. He thinks he might .. not sure yet .. need to cancel because of an unexpected family obligation.

RW looked at the cost of hotels around Andrews. Looks like the cheapest might be a Days Inn in Murphy. That's the town where Pat and I snuck off to by ourselves. About 14 miles away from the center of Andrews. Of course, camping's an option. Not for me! But others may not look at camping like I do.

Hi Steve! Not yet, but soon. I'm shopping.

I would return to Helen, go with Andrews, or wherever you guys decide. I'll probably camp, like last year. Especially at $89 a night!
If there's anything I can do to help from this distance and with almost no local knowledge, I'm willing.

I just spoke to the manager of the Quality Inn. She was there in 2010, and she remembers us. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.... :nocomment:

Anyway, she said that the new owners have raised the regular rate to $89/night, and only give a $5 discount for groups. However, they have instructed her that if any groups have stayed with them before, they will offer a reduced group rate of $70/night, provided we reserve at least 10 rooms.

I think that is a decent rate, considering the accomodations and the proximity to some really great rides. But I would need to get some feedback from you guys as to whether enough of you agree with me. Please post some feedback here. If anyone wants to post this information on any of the other Rebel sites, feel free to do so. This is the only rebel forum I frequent, so I would need some help getting the word out to the other rebel groups.

Finally, I don't think we are permitted to hold a "Rebel" rally without SW's coffee pot. SW & RW, would it work for you guys if we moved it to the weekend of May 17-20, the weekend before Memorial Day?

I noted the date .. May 17-20 .. and remembered that the same span of 2 weeks had separated the 1st Andrews and Sidewinder rallies for us. When was that? 2008

I was so stressed with decision-making on packing my Stuff .. keeping things separated .. having one week at home before heading back out again.

We were forced to spend TWO nights in Tunica just to unstress me.

hhmmm ..

RW & I & my coffee pot can be in Andrews if you change the date to May 17 -20.

I am pretty flexible on dates and locations.......but for the record May 17 - 20 in Andrews looks doable for me.

The spring rally is looking better and better already.

You'd been on our minds for a couple of days with the thought of sending you a heads-up about this rally. Looks like someone else beat us to it.

Looking forward to seeing you, Ken. Gotta get my KenHug.

Did your daughter and lilspeedy ever make contact?

Still interested in hearing if $70/night would be acceptable for the group. Personally, I don't think it sounds too bad, especially when you get this:

Greg, are you sure you have the right picture?

These look like they were taken in front of a Southern old folks home.

The only buff one is the one standing.

Are ya'll sure this place is ok? They won't let us park our bikes on the porch? What's up with that?

For $70 at today's rates, that's not bad, but I like camping out at rallies. It's just a thing I do. Maybe they have a big forecourt where I could pitch a tent among the roses!

Yes the bikes are parked there .. but at night.

During daylight hours, most bikes are parked in front of individual rooms, or lined up under the canopy .. READY to go!

Anyone given thought to changing the subject to something more relevant to Andrews, NC 2012?

The thought occurred after I was questioned by another "Rebeler" who hasn't rallied in a long while .. and is interested enough to want to follow the thread. A maybe, right now.
