We are pretty lucky since we do ride every day. It doesn't rain much so we carry rain gear as extra luggage just in case. Usually we get to work and home in between the sprinkles and the dust storms. I have waited out a dust storm before leaving work once. I tried to wait out a rain storm once but it wouldn't stop. I headed home in almost a foot of water just about all the way home. Was an experience I was glad I had but don't really care if I do it again.

I'm usually doing something or going somewhere so don't worry about a good time or bad time for me. As long as it's between 9am and 9pm I'll answer if I'm able.

That's pretty funny John since it's been 113 most of this past week and the coming week doesn't look any cooler. They ask me at work how it is riding in the heat. I tell them it usually isn't bad till you stop. But when it's 113 to 115, I tell them it feels like your riding through hell! I think it's cool how the heat rolls off your fingers. Really, the 6 miles home is just about all I can handle in that kind of heat.

We got the speedometer fixed and the oil leak. Now I have to venture into the rear hub and find out what needs to be replaced. It's making a clunking noise, the shifter is about to fall off, the chain needs to be tightened and lubed, we should replace the hub on the front with the next brake pads..... The old girl is falling apart piece by piece. Floyd says I better start looking for another bike. I think I need to check on parts for the one I have!

Of course, it's a tad warm here, too:

I worked up a sweat after lunch, riding home from my mom's place.

Look at this bike too.

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/mcy/3180078537.html

or if you want newer and larger,

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/mcy/3199854549.html

and lastly, if you would consider a sport bike that's really a standard:

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/mcy/3197487326.html

I really like this last one. :D

1st one is too small and too old. The second one I would consider if I have to go that route. The 3rd one just isn't me.
I was looking at some Intruders. They look like a decent bike.
I was considering the Rebel thinking it would buy me at least 5 years and I would have my current one for parts.
I only want something different if we can't fix the one I have. 2 more years till the truck is paid off and then I will be ready to buy an upgrade.

John, I just noted a post by you under Introductions where you mentioned living in Norcross.

I had no idea! Since a lot of my past life was spent in the area .. I wondered,
"had we ever run across each other before and not known it".

When were you there?

We lived in Norcross, GA (actually in a trailer park a bit out of town) from the fall of 1973 to the fall of 1974. I was working for the Georgia Bureau of Mines (which Jimmy Carter consolidated into a DNR so he had fewer "heads" to deal with).

I'm going to get to see some of the stuff that Purpleazfrog talks about this weekend. I'm taking state 77, and 188, US 87, and county 3 (Lake Mary Rd) S.E. of Flagstaff to ride from S. of Tucson to Flagstaff to visit the youngest boy. I'll pass through Jake's corner as well as Payson and Strawberry. Consider it reconnoitering for a "much longer" future Sidewinder should we get tired of the twisties on the Devil's Highway.

It should let me test the sheepskin. :D

You're making me sick John! The bike is at the shop getting fixed. Had to order a shifter from Jack and we're replacing the chain, fixing the back brake light (it hasn't worked with the back brake for a while now), Carb. needs to be cleaned up...

Hope to have it back by the end of next week at the latest. I sure do miss it. Hate driving the truck! Had some jerk try to share my lane in construction and popped the driver side mirror out. $116 to fix that!

Sedona, Flagstaff, Winslow.... They would all be great places to go!
Gonna have to head for one of them when I get the bike back. I need my Therapy!

Well, I had 50 miles of rain between Oracle and Globe, and another short, hard shower just before getting to Flagstaff. I doubt that you would have enjoyed it that much. When I get home I will download a photo of the Winkleman smelter smokestack in the rain and fog. It was surreal, I hope the picture is half as good as the real view.

I love riding in the rain but don't really think I would care for hard showers.

No you wouldn't. (I take it you're talking about Lake Hope)

You wouldn't be able to pitch a tent. Nor sleep in a trailer. Not allowed. A campground is available elsewhere for that type of camping. And since camaraderie seems to top the list of reasons for being there in the first place, you would WANT to be with the rest of us.

1 - camaraderie
2 - eating
3 - motorcycling

Because we want to come back again, we avoid doing anything that would prevent our return. Up to cleaning up after ourselves before departing the cabins on the last day.

I need to talk to you, Purple, when Leatherneck is with you. So how about giving me a ringy-dingy tonight or the first night you're both available to talk. I have a proposition for you. Nothing to do with the Lake Hope Rebel rally.

Yeah! that's what I meant! I was looking for my post on there and couldn't find it... I hadn't even started drinking yet! LOL

I love propositions! 10:49pm here and I just saw your post so it won't be tonight. Wasn't a good day and the boss is in the sack.
I'm trying to sort my thoughts and get ready for another day. We still have our company living here and I'm praying they are gone by Christmas.

Gonna run the part from Jack to my mechanic tomorrow. He is in hopes of finishing my bike Monday, YAHOO!
I seriously need to find a ride into cooler weather!!!

John, Why is it we only get together when RW & SW come to AZ?

Any who.... Leatherneck is working from 7 to 3:30 tomorrow so I'll try to give you a call tomorrow night SW. I only make promises I can keep so I'll do my best but can't promise. Life is a fly by the moment till we get the family out of our house.

Hugs & Love,
Me :)

Ahhhh... If I just sit and stare at it for a while I can see myself riding through it!
Thanks!

BTW, the Forest Circus cliff dwelling on AZ188 isn't worth the stop (even with a Golden Eagle pass).

Where is that at John? Got the bike back. The part I got from Jack wasn't what I expected. We made it work though. A bit disappointed.... Ready for a long ride :)

It is just a few miles south of the Roosevelt dam (AZ88 & 188) on AZ188 (go NNW before entering Globe on US 60).
