Maybe we need to hook up with this guy; RW would like it:

Logged 220 miles of canyon carving extacy !! Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to Malibu Canyon Road to Mullholland Rd past the Rock Store into the infamous Snake. Continue Mullholland Rd to Encinal Canyon Rd down to PCH over to Decker Canyon Road back up to Mullholland Rd. I did this circuit 4 times, clockwise twice and reverse to counterclockwise twice. YUMMY TWISTED ROADS

Thought I'd be different, and post our last pictures first.

Fortunately, this happened after the Sidewinder Ride. Just to RW & me, and on the way homeward. Other fortunates were .. having a spare tire .. and finding a Walmart during operating hours of the Auto Center on a Sunday. RW did not want to continue without having a spare tire .. one not already in use. So, we replaced the blown tire & had the spare remounted on the side.

I believe anyone who organizes or takes part in the organization of a rally, worries a little about accidents or a participant ending up hurt. We deemed this rally a success 6 days before because none of the previously-mentioned happened. Our 3-day ride was enjoyed by all. Heat exhaustion, sunburn, rash, sore feet, grit scouring, tired butts, and wind bufferings only managed to enhance our memories. What a great ride!

The important part is that you two are fine (bikes too, but they aren't nearly as important). I'm assuming that the wheel was fine (no dings in pic and new tire mounted on that steel wheel/rim.

And, by the way, I had a good time on the ride too. :D

I sort of figured that you did, John. Enjoy our get-together, that is.

A picture of you laughing so hard and looking like you may easily fall
off your chair while laughing.. is still imprinted on my brain.

This happened at the 2nd floor balcony seating area of the Springerville
Rode Inn. We were sitting, in the dark, around the wrought iron table,
ending our night with coffee & conversation.

Though laughter was common, this particular .. very loud spurt .. stemmed
from LeatherNeck's tale of what his female family member .. long ago .. got
caught in the wringer of the old-timey washing machine.

Some sights were repeated many times throughout the 3-day ride

Signs warning of horseshoe turns ahead.

Uphill slanting roads & guardrails.

Downhill guard rails & roads, where pictures are rare .. because we're traveling too fast, or Pull-Outs are not available. That's the Salt River. A quick camera shot from my bike.

Snaking roads before us.

This was taken Thursday eve .. before the Sat/Sun/Mon ride. We were sort of halfway between Flagstaff & Phoenix, on I-17. Pulled into a casino/hotel. We weren't scheduled to meet with Purple and LeatherNeck .. about an hour and a half away .. until the next day. We needed to organize our riding gear for easy transfer to the bikes, after unloading them at their house.

For us, timing was crucial since we wanted to meet with them, unload, and hit those Phoenix area freeways to Apache Junction before heavy afternoon traffic. (Have I mentioned that I hate those freeways?)

Within an hour after this picture was taken, the pool was filled with splashing and laughter from other occupants who chose to take an evening dip.

By the way, John .. this casino/hotel was 1 of 3 where we spent the night yet did not venture into the casino. See, I have control. (backed by tiredness & pre-Phoenix-freeway stress)

The night before, we'd caught sight of a $49-a-nite-special at Sky City casino/hotel in NM, alongside I-40. The bed was much more appealing than a slot machine.

As it ended up, our planned schedule for the next day was shot to hell. We unloaded in 108 temperature .. (caught that on tv that evening). After unloading, which included removing additional items such as cd's, food, bottled sodas and any thing we could think of that could melt, explode, spoil, etc in an enclosed vehicle in that type of heat .. we needed to sit and re-hydrate. Out came the neck-thingies which Purple had soaking in ice water. And re-hydrating drinks. And ice water soaked washcloth. We sat outside on the back patio under a cool misting system that felt wonderful. I want one of those!.

Unloading had taken us into "traffic time" so we all decided that we should wait until after-the-afternoon-traffic to attempt a ride to Apache Junction. We left about 6 pm. Delaying was probably the best thing we could have done. Freeway traffic was fairly light .. and the ride itself was of the unstressful type.

John was already at the hotel since mid afternoon .. showered, had eaten, and rested from his own ride in from Tucson. After check-in, we all walked over to the Waffle House for a meal for us & a drink for John.

Purple, I noticed 113 in Phoenix yesterday. What memories that evoked.

I've got a weather-related story to share. We've just returned from PA where we experienced HOT & muggy weather for the first time. (in PA) Everywhere we went .. someone was wiping sweat off his face .. or fanning herself .. with all complaining of the unusual heat.

On the day before we left, we stopped at the Tractor Store. RW had played Lawn Ranger with the mower, encountered a hole, and bent a blade. We needed a replacement.

I remained in our air-conditioned car .. (this isn't the place to use it's name, the Toaster) .. taking the opportunity to read a few more pages in a book that had me involved.

RW returned to the car sporting a wide grin.

The clerk, after acquiring RW's zip code, had asked .. "what brings you to PA?"

... "We came up here to escape the heat"

RW walked out, leaving behind shocked expressions on the faces of those in line at the checkout counter. Most probably thinking this guy must be out of his mind.

(What's funny is his statement was mostly true. The forecast, before we left for PA, was low 90s for PA .. low 100s for SC)

This past Saturday, it was officially 109.9' F in Scottsburg, Indiana, while my wife in hot Florida was only 92'F. She rubbed it in when she called Saturday night. Now the southwest, it is supposed to be hot, it is a desert after all, with Death Valley posting the hottest recorded temp in modern times, I believe it was 137'F a few years ago, if I recall correctly.

It was a beautiful 81 last night! We had dinner the neighbors a few drinks and played redneck golf till almost midnight. It's a dry heat.... We've had a bit of rain so it cooled us down a bit.

Fixed it!

$15 sheepskin from Craigslist.

Unfortunately, I took my wife along and took her out to lunch and used book shopping.

Then we stopped at the Toyota dealer to let her look at a Prius V.

She's driving my pickup and I'm riding her Rebel to the dealers this morning to see if we can get to an acceptable price.

And by "that" you are referring to the sheepskin? Or the Prius V?

The sheepskin! :P

I was thinking about doing the same a while back, but couldn't find a sheepskin on my cheapskate budget. :3

I have a white sheepskin on my klx250sf.

I also have a black sheepskin on my g650gs

Got them both from my wife. She bought both of time at really low prices. The black one was $10 and the white one was $5. Look around at some equine (horse) shops, see when they are having yard sales, reduction sales, swap meets, and you can find them at low prices. You can cut them down, adde strings/straps, to make them fit.

Well, her bike got exercised on the interstate, but, there will be no new vehicles. The stealership wouldn't come down enough on the price of the Prius.

I have a sheepskin, and I wanted to do that, but it started shedding. I keep picturing myself getting off the bike, and leaving a trail of white wool shedding from my butt as I walk around the local supermarket. Not that I'm real big on having a macho image or anything, but still....

Purpleazfrog .. caught a picture today, on tv, of a scary wave of dust over Phoenix.
It reminded me of a tsunami wave. Hope you're not riding your bike in the stuff.
A mention was made of people "driving blind" when caught in it.

I still have pictures & comments to post here .. just haven't gotten to it. Been
meaning to call too but always think of it at the wrong time. Like ..

-she might be working now.
-maybe it's too late.
-maybe it's too early.

The different time zones has me trying to plan AZ phone calls like I do for my family
members in HI or on the west coast.

We've been trying to fit in a "check on the family" trip to the west coast. These rising
gas prices, especially out that way, may squash our hopes there. Also, dashing any
hopes I may have had of seeing you guys again anytime soon.

John, did that dust wave, or storm, affect you and Brenda in Tucson?

Nope. Lots of wind last night but no storm and dust wasn't bad. Dust devils are not that uncommon in southern AZ or CA. The key thing is to get well off the road so someone doesn't run into you.

In 1961 or '62, I got caught in one (while wearing contacts) driving a home delivery milk truck with both doors open. It was pure agony getting the truck off the road and parked before I could pull the contacts.

I'm going to test that sheepskin riding to Flagstaff to visit the youngest boy later this month. It's a bit over 400 miles each way.
