Monday will include a trip to Red Rock Canyon which is about 15 miles outside of Vegas.

http://redrockcanyonlv.org/index.html

So far, the weather looks to be mostly sunny .. and 55 degrees.
Wish we were taking our bikes! But cages it will have to be.

An additional trip to the Valley of Fire State Park is possible. 55 miles outside of Vegas.
Again, a motorcycle ride would have been fantastic!

http://parks.nv.gov/vf.htm

On Tuesday, some will be taking in Hoover Dam. Somewhere between Thurs & Monday, the Grand Canyon.

Although this Vegas rally was initiated as a one-time face-to-face meet .. then extended into a once a day meet .. suspect that we'll be seeing a whole lot more of Vegas with other Rebelers beyond the designated meeting times.

After all, 10 of the Vegas visitors will be part of the core group of Eastern rallies. Any reader of Eastern rally reports may get the idea that we enjoy each other's company.

We do !!!

kc7rad

RW & I won't know until we get closer to your area if we'll be able to meet in Henderson. We will call ahead if it looks possible. If not, there's always Vegas.

(kc7rad will be BOB's new host after jsonder. They are working out the logistics themselves for transfer so we're not in that loop now)

Hi little dave

Like with kc7rad .. we won't know until we get closer whether we'll be able to meet up in Henderson, but would love to meet, if possible. We'll need to let you know by cell phone since we won't have a computer with us.

Jsonder (Tucson area) & Purpleazfrog (Phoenix area) will be monitoring the forum (thank you both!) while we're off the internet.

How about sending jsonder a PM with your cell phone number? He, and or purpleazfrog have our cell number and will forward the info to us. I'm a bit paranoid about my privacy and balk at posting my number on line. I'll then let you know the closer we get, if we'll be able to meet. Maybe we could plan a joint meet with kc7rad.

Of course, there's always a meeting in Vegas. Wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends are welcome. Super people .. these Rebelers .. and their mates. Singles have been super people too.

Has anyone heard from this intrepid crew, or have they become lost in the numerous attractions?

I'm anxiously awaiting an update from these travelers. Maybe they all stayed in Vegas?

I considered going on this trip (since my birthday was that weekend it woulda been extra fun!) but just couldn't swing it this time. Maybe next year if it happens again.

I think we need to finish this up. SW's been under the weather since we returned from Vegas and is taking longer than expected to get well. I decided to start the trip report myself. Let's see how quickly her health improves after seeing my post.

First, Jack sent us this link yesterday. Maybe it should be our theme song for this Vegas trip.

http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=YL0oxmwsOY4

The Vegas views were awesome. The variety of buildings and structures drew our attention, over and over again.

Majestic. Fantasy-like.

Nice looking building to the right.

Sweet. Cutsie. For tigerlily and Debbie - so chocolate

Walgreens being remodeled. Wonder what it will look like when it's done?

Normally, the weeks following New Year's are dull, dull, dull. Nothing to look forward to beyond watching the weather across the nation .. feeling grateful if we're spared the worst .. or uttering bad words at the weather if we're caught deep in it.

For thirteen people, 2011 was different. We had this Vegas trip to anticipate. And anticipate, we did! As departure dates drew near, concerns again returned to the weather. On the US weather map, a blizzard was forming from the West coast to Vegas. Flagstaff AZ expected several feet of snow. Thunderstorms, strong winds, hail would pound the Midwest. In the Eastern states .. dangerous thunderstorms expected in the South with snow, ice possible up North.

Marie was flying for the 1st time. Jim W, who stayed behind because of a dealership show, expressed his concern for her with ..

What if she goes berserk !! And tries to open the door !!

We all were hoping that Marie wouldn't have to experience one or more of those stomach-dropping moments during turbulence on her 1st flight.

Phil was working hard from morning to night in the weeks preceding .. mainly on snow-related repairs & indoor remodeling with a deadline. His light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel was "boarding" that plane for some much needed R&R in Vegas. He was determined to make his flight despite the possibility that the plane could require de-icing. Apparently, he'd experienced this before.

According to him, "de-icing of the plane makes passengers nervous".

United had grounded a large number of their planes to comply with federal regulations. Would this negatively affect those flying out?

RW & I were traveling by vehicle. We'd just learned that our 14-yr old truck .. the one with 4 wheel drive .. the one that got us safely through ice and snow many times in the past .. may need a new engine. $4K at the lowest estimate. Two years ago, we were rear-ended on the interstate in GA. The truck that hit us had to be towed away. Not a scratch on our truck. Our big trailer hitch might have been responsible for the save.

At the time, RW & I agreed that, "had we been in the Toaster, we'd have been squashed".

Well .. the Toaster .. a 2006 Toyota Scion XB .. is the only other cage we own. It could probably sit in the truck bed if we take the cap off. (a slight exaggeration, but not by much) We didn't have a choice. We had to travel by Toaster.

(Back later. Maybe a day or 2)

Wow, we were actually in Vegas the second week of Jan. It was fun but I wish I had my bike with me.

I'd loved to have joined y'all for some of these festivities. Alas, being a shift supervisor at one of the Strip properties + President's Day Weekend translates to "I don't get the free time".

You probably won't be able to see it when it's done. The center is planning for a huge sign that will dwarf any sign on the Strip. All the casinos are protesting because city ordinances, at the time when they erected their signs, didn't permit such huge signs.

Better than coupons --- just keep feeding the bar-skank of choice a slew of alcohol and it's free
