And they say only Harley's breakdown?

RW .. the HD rider. Stevenmrvl, AtlAggie, Bighillwill, GrinRebel studying the map and trying to figure out the route we'll take.

SW says in frustration .. "my bike keeps dying on me".
GrinRebel .. "I smell gas".
SW .. "Butch, gas is dripping out my bike !!!"

Tools come out .. several offers of eye glasses .. pocket knives appear ..fuel line trimmed. RW dumps the contents of his lazy rider & saddle bags on the ground before finding the spare fuel filter he carries for the Rebel.

A riding lawn mower fuel filter.

Take a closer look at my Rebel's underbelly. To keep from having to pull the plug to drain the puke tube, RW installed a shut off valve.

It's an in-line water shut off valve for a refrigerator.

I don't ride a motorcycle. I ride a 2-wheeled appliance with a throttle.

Breakdowns are like real estate - Location, Location, Location! If you have to break down, just as well do it in a fine spot, and you did choose a mighty fine spot for yours!

And as for your choice of parts, I used a chopped up lawn mower handle for bag mounts. The best parts don't always come from the dealership.

Thanks for posting pics!

David was sporting a new look. He wore a doo-rag this time. It reminded me of the Johnny Dep pirate character in the movies

He actually looked younger .. but I wasn't about to tell him that.

Becky ... (came in a car, but got to ride pillion a couple of times) ... FL

* Becky has a Vulcan 550 .. been in an accident .. starting up again but didn't think she
was prepared to take on the roads surrounding Helen yet. She was encouraged to come
anyway. I opted out of the Saturday ride and she & I spent the day walking Helen. We
caught a leisurely breakfast ... popped into different shops like quilting, jewelry, blown
glass, a Christmas store .. lingered at river's edge & watched the tube riders extricate
themselves from rocks .. stopped for ice cream. I people-watched while she talked to the
buggy driver and patted the horse. We then agreed, quite sensibly I might add .. that we
had enough of pavement-pounding & we had enough time for a nap before the riders returned.

Got a note from her saying that she was so inspired by the weekend that she got on her bike
the next day .. practicing for the next rally.

You go girl !!!

Would have been 17 bikes and 22 people at Helen but ..

- weneroux (another Steve) & daughter Candace experienced a bike problem.
- Pat (Logan"s wife) was tending a sick grandchild.

Missed you guys. Maybe next time. There's always a next time.

I thought , - what the heck, I'll try to get a picture of Andy & Madeline behind me. I held the camera with my left hand, pointed backwards over my right shoulder, and took several shots.

I got terrific pictures of the ground, the side of my helmet, trees, top of my lazy rider backrest. But I also managed to get this one (1) picture.

GRIN REBEL & MADELINE

The last time we saw both was in a hospital room on September 4, 2008. After Andy crashed his bike and was air-lifted to Greenville, SC.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16667 (andy's accident thread)

We didn't expect Andy to ride a bike in Helen. Thought he was coming just to socialize with old friends. Blew our minds! And Madeline? We'd been at 3-5 rallies/meets with Madeline & Andy previously. Madeline did not ride!

SW said she was thrilled they both were riding with us. I was glad too ... but also devastated too .. because Andy said he finally tossed the "flowers" that I put such hard work into making for him.

SW said .. "he's finally cured"

"As long as he kept that "creation" on his mantel, he was a sick man. Real sick!

I'm sorry we never had a chance to go over Blood Mountain on US 129. Apparently some of the photographers who were working the Dragon have now moved south to Blood Mountain.

I led a ride last Saturday of about 13 Southern Cruisers, and this is one of the pictures that was available on-line.

The route we were riding was the new "Georgia Gauntlet", which you can check out at this web site:
http://www.gauntletga.com/

If you combined our Friday and Saturday runs at the Helen rally, we rode most of the roads included in the Gauntlet. :)

Thanks, took a look at their site. Might be fun to just go for a ride up there and make the whole loop. Doesnt look like anything new, just a name for a bunch of roads Atlantans ride anyway. But this way, it gives them a destination.

We started at Turner's Corner and got as far as Hiawassie before the bottom dropped out last Saturday. We skipped the last few miles of the Gauntlet, over Richard Russell, and just rode down 75 to Helen to dry out and have a beverage or two. But since most of us rode Richard Russell the week before on a ride up to Hiawassie and Lake Burton, we're going to count it as a full ride of the Gauntlet. ;)

And I agree, most of them are roads we get to ride all the time, they've just been mapped out now to make a nice, full circle. We seldom make it all the way up to Nottely Dam, though, so the view across the lake was nice, and Gumlog Road was a nice new experience for me.

Since we were near the north end of 60 anyway, we took a little side trip west from the mapped Gauntlet to have lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in north Georgia, the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant. I highly recommend it.
