I'm gathering intrest to have a Rebel Rally in Helen, Ga either Jun 3,4,5 or Jun 10,11,12. If ya'll can remember a couple of years ago we had a "joint" rally staged at the Christy Motel w/under building parking. This was a good motel but sadly they have priced themselves out of the ballpark at $80/night. I have found the Days Inn in Helen to be $50/night. I'd like to see another "joint" rally and propose to block 10 rooms. If there is any interest please contact me @ .

Thanks,

Mike, alive and well in mid-Ga.

Mike, we'll try to make a run up to Helen in the next week or two to check out this hotel. The reviews on this web site are not very good:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... orgia.html

It rates #16 out of 18 in Helen.

My wife needs some patches sewn on her vest anyway, and the lady at the bike shop in Helen sews for $1 a patch. :D

Just want to throw this out. Anyone up for camping? Or a place that has cabins/rooms and campsites?

Aggie:

The Christy was the site of the first Helen Rally. It's a tradition thing.

Plus, it sits right in the middle of a bend in the river, and they let us build a bonfire.

Duke, I was aware of the history at the Christy (now the Riverbend Hotel and Cabins). But Mike felt like their $80/night price tag was a little steep for a rally. That's why he suggested the Days Inn.

Maybe I can visit them in person and negotiate a better group price than Mike was able to get over the phone.

I'm a big fan of sleeping next to the river, and a good bonfire is a plus also!

Unicoi State Park http://www.gastateparks.org/Unicoi has tent, rv, cabins and lodge rooms avail. Tent sites are $25/night for up to six folks. No single cabins are avail at this time. We had a Saturday breakfast in the lodge dining room, buffet style, maybe $7/person with a guarntee of 10 lbs net gain.

As glamorous as camping sounds, I was the only one who camped out at Unicoi during Helenback.

But I certainly like the idea. I have a coffee pot and a one burner stove. That is all I need.

weneroux, if you're willing to go a little further, TWO has both tent camping and a few cabins, about 30 miles from Helen in Suches.

Hi,

This is what I've got confirmed:

Days Inn Helen
8288 S. Main Street Hwy 75 & US 129
Helen, GA 30545

I have "blocked" 10 rooms for Jun 3-5 (Friday & Saturday nights) and 5 additional rooms for the 2nd.(Thursday night). These are non-smoking rooms with two double beds.

The following rates will apply:

1-2 adults - $50.96

3 adults - $55.21

4 adults - $59.46

The above rates don't include the 15% tax.

Each person will be responsible for his or her reservations. You must call 877-361-2506, the confirmation number is 54378292 and the group is Honda Rebels Motorcycle Club. You may wish to call and get a feel for their cancelation policy as I'm thinking you must canx ten days in advance.

We now have a date and motel, would anyone like to volunteer to design and lead rides?

The Tail of the Dragon is two hours distance through some of the best m/c counry, a leisure round trip would be seven hours with plenty of breaks. Franklin N.C. where you'll find "The Wheels of Time M/C museum and as I understand it some great ice cream is maybe 1 1/2 hrs. away.

Please be advise this isn't a "sponsored" meet, nothing regimented, strickly laid back. As some of you might know I brought this up on the Yahoo site and ya'll are cordially invited. Can't leave our friends behind. I promise this will not be another scorcher like we had in Newnan, Ga one summer not to long ago.

If I have seemed to miss something here please let me know.

Mike

Mike, we ride the area around Helen quite a bit, and I've mapped out about a 4 hour, 150 route out of Helen that takes us over the Richard Russell Scenic Highway, then across to Suches on Wolf Pen Gap Road (State Route 180). Those are two of my favorite roads in the state.

Then, I suggest we head over to East Ellijay for Bar B Que at Poole's, which is the best BBQ I've found since we moved to Georgia. After lunch, we can swing through Dahlonega, site of the first gold rush in the US, then back to Helen.

Of course, the rides you mentioned are also great rides if the group wantd a little more distance. Straight north out of Helen on 17 takes you through Hiawassie before you cross into North Carolina and take 64 over to Franklin.

I'm filing these directions/rides. They sound good especially the b-b-que.

I don't know if anyone is up for a full day on their bike (ref. the Dragon) but as time passes we'll get some good ideads.

Thanks,

Mike

Hey, I'd'a been right there with ya, but right up until the last minute, the wife was coming, and she's not as big a fan of camping as I am.

Hi Tims96,

You are certainly welcome to bring anything you wish, even the Harley. The problem with the Harley is that you might need to ride in the very back so none of us will slip on the oil spills.

Just as a thought if anyone plans to camp maybe you could put up with a gang of us so we could have that bon fire?

Mike

I think there is quite a bit of interest, I'd like to see you there. We'll have a plate set for you and a spot in line.

Mike, you can count on RW & me if you're needing a body count, but don't you dare put me on a mailing list.

All the information I need is already here. As well as info on others who may be interested as the time draws nearer.

As soon as we make reservations, I will post that info here.

It will be soon. We already have reservations for Vegas & Lake Hope. That's our way of "blocking off" our own calendars where family & friends know before hand not to expect us for anything during the blocked-off days.
