I have had my bike for a year. I am totally new to this and not sure of true proper maintenance of my Rebel 250. This winter I put it in the basement and didn't think anything of it. Well, come spring the battery was dead as death. I bought a little tender and plugged it in. Okay so a day later it's running just fine and I take it out for a spin. Here's the problem: if I do not keep it plugged in the battery dies. I rode it to work yesterday, made sure that everything was off, and when I went to leave at the end of the day the battery was dead. How can the battery drain if nothing is on? What am I doing wrong?

Give it a good healthy ride (as in 20-30 minutes), short hops don't recharge the battery. If that doesn't do it, your batt simply isn't holding a charge.

Your battery may have been seriously damaged by the deep or complete discharge last winter. This can sulphate the plates so that the battery will no longer hold a charge. Put it on the tender and leave it for a couple of days to give it a full charge. If that doesn't work, you need a new battery

Thank you for that help. I have had the bike on the tender for a good week and it still drains so I guess I need to get a new battery! It will charge with the tender but won't stay charged. Once I get it running it's fine - until I shut if off! Well, lesson learned!
