I just posted in the introduction section. But thought these question probably properly belonged here.

I am a brand new rider, completed my MSF a little over a week ago and likely to purchase a used 2008 Honda Rebel tomorrow night 4,500 miles. I test rode the bike around a parking lot today, it runs great and appears to be in excellent condition. That being said, aside from some time in the shop in high school (quite a while ago...) I am not at all mechanically skilled or knowledgeable. This leads me to a few questions:

1) I used the MSF pre-ride inspection checklist to give the bike a basic once over. Are there any other checks I should make before handing over the moola?
2) Are there any known problems with the 2008s?
3) Are there any standard maintenance procedures I should perform on the bike?
4) Assuming the bike is in as excellent condition as it appears, is $1950 a reasonable price? (I checked bluebook and NADA, this seems like a good price...)
5) No owner's manual. I have checked around older posts and it seems like there may be an online version but I cannot find a clear answer / link to this. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance for your answers!!

All late model Rebels are pretty much the same, except for paint schemes. No big issues with any of them.
Standard maintenance would include an oil change every 1000-1500 miles normally,
check, clean, lubricate and adjust chain tension if needed every 500-1000 miles. (you should be able to wiggle the lower run of chain a total of an inch or so up and down.. no more and not much less)
Keep the battery charged by riding the bike on a regular basis, or plugging it in to a battery tender if it doesn't run at least once a week or so.

A OEM Honda Service Manual will provide you with all of the required Service and Repair of your Rebel. That Manual can be obtained from a company call Helminc.com or look on ebay or use the SEARCH Function of your Internet Browser.

Er, he recommended the Service Manual. The Owners Manual does have a bit on maintenance, but, the shop or service manual is what you need if you want to do all of the routine maintenance. It is a very easy bike to work on and the work is quite rewarding.
