Do you think Honda should include a full tool kit on all new bikes such as they did in the 2005 and earlier models?

I voted yes, but it's really not a big deal. The seller of my '96 Rebel couldn't remember when he last saw it when I bought the bike from him almost 3 years ago. At least he remembered where his spare key was.

My 2011 Triumph came with a single hex wrench. It's used to remove the seat from the bike. I suppose they would not have included it if it were not a 4.5 mm wrench. I tried several hardware stores to see if I could find a spare, but had to buy a complete set just to get that one size.

Found mine last night in the hidden compartment under the seat... they really crammed that thing in there and it took me about an hour to get it all back in.

Might just use it as a glove / registration storage box and get a fork bag instead to hold these tools.

Any suggestions on good locking fork bags?

Try repacking the tool pouch more compactly, and see if it won't just slip back in.

Sometimes, a couple of minutes organizing can prevent you from inadvertently teaching the kids new words. :D

It pays to be bilingual!
DB, if you do decide to go with a tool pouch, i would recommend you get one large enough to add a few useful things (like vise grip, pressure gauge, spare bulbs and better tools).

Are you sure you need the cylinder hone, ring compresser, circular saw and router? :D
Seriously, where you travel, I understand completely.

I never pry in to someone's personal business. :D

I do agree if you are getting a tool pouch, might as well get some better tools to carry in it.

My new-to-me 2009 Rebel came without a tool kit and without a tool kit box/area cover. I'd like to put together a tool kit that will fit into this area and also find a cover. Any suggestions for what tools I need and for where to look for a cover?

Nothing packs as well as the "factory toolkit" as they are designed to do that. The downside of the OEM tools is that they are cheap and often have a little play (slop) on the nuts and bolts. Cycle Gear has a number of Stockton tools on sale (quality only slightly better than the OEM stuff) if you want to try their sale items. Their roadside tool kit is half price (closer to what it's worth) and you might want to look at that.

You can turn the rear shocks by hand with a damp chamois or a rubber belt wrench, rather than buying the shock adjusting tool from Honda.

I have a tool roll with a number of Craftsman wrenches and such, but it will not fit in the Rebel storage space. That is why I have a tool bag. :D

You can buy the OEM kit from Honda Direct for under $50.

I just bought a sweet 2007 Rebel w/ less than 1,300 miles on it. The owner couldn't find the Owners Manual that came with it.

I'm also new to the forum. I just ordered an Owners Manual from the Bay for $20. But, I would like to put together a tool kit for it before or while I'm waiting for the manual to arrive.

Came anyone tell what was included with the original tool kit?

I would like the name and sizes of the tools that were in the kit if that would be possible so I can put my own kit together. I know that these tool kit were rather cheap (when they were available). That's why I want to put my own kit together.

Thanks in advance.

For that model year, the OEM tool kit consists of a single screwdriver. To access it, you need to remove a plastic side cover that is attached with a screw. In other words, the tool needed to access itself needs itself to be utilized to access itself. ;)

Honda knows this. We know they know this. Honda pretends that we don't know that we know they know this despite them knowing that we do know this, and we pretend Honda doesn't know that we know that they pretend to know we don't know this despite knowing that they do know that we know this, you know?

I would like to suggest that the experienced members of this forum take the opportunity to compile a list of tools that a new rider could assemble either in the tiny tool kit compartment, or elsewhere on the bike.
